Status Report August 13, 2006

Pete:

We did one tow of the sonar into Kiska Harbor. I was ready to jump off the boat right there. We could see buildings, guns, caves, telephone poles, the min sub base, machine gun holes in the cliffs, bomb craters and Japanese freighters wrecked on the beach. Lots of interesting geology, volcanic cliffs and rocks.

I took all video.

I did see a photo of the air strip at Kiska on the page that I forwarded to you from Maritime Helicopters. It looked really too rough.

I really hope someone has a Goose or twin Otter stationed at Adak when you get out here so you can see Kiska first hand. I think Attu is closer but has no facilities but I am not sure.

We saw MacArthur reef. A low bulge of a rock covered in kelp. A favorite of the birds.

I will work on lots more compressed photos.
