LtCol Richard Lane and Yutaka Iwasaki - The two men responsible for the beginning of the search

Bruce:

In 1995 for one dollar Richard purchased a wiring diagram which
supposedly was of a winch on the Kana Maru. In an effort to determine
its credibility he put it on the web. Yutaka answered and also
pointed out that the Kana Maru had been in a confrontation with a
submarine most likely the Grunion.

Recognizing the importance of that information he got ComSubPac
website to link to Yutaka’s site.

The rest is history.

I thought I saw the exchange between Richard and Yutaka somewhere on the web, but now I can’t find it.

Richard and Yutaka, where did you discuss the history of the Grunion and is an archive available?

    Newman,

The web site was J-aircraft.com, Japanese Navy and Ships. Unfortunately, the web site does not archive all of the previous posts on their home page. However, I did print some of the web page postings since I was very interested in Yutaka Iwasaki’s information on the Kano Maru and USS Grunion (see links below for my scan of Yutaka’s post).

    Best Regards,

    Rich Lane
