Howard Sanders Jr. emailed me and identified his parents- here is his email
I have a copy of that picture in my possession. My dad is “E” and my mom is #45.
I will try to get out pictures and what ever else I could find in the next week and let you know what I have.
Howard A. Sanders, Jr.
E. Howard Alfred Sanders
45. Lucy Sanders
I believe # 19 is my aunt Lilian (sp?) Bedard and #34 is her husband (my uncle) Chief Machinest Mate Leo Bedard. At the time of the party he was still a First Class Petty Officer (E6). Isabelle Long
George Petrie tells me that the man on the far left first row labelled here as “1″ is Thomas Martin.
Crason Martin, # 10 in the photo, spent his earley years growing up near my fathers parents in Maryland. As I understand he moved to Va. as a teenager. After moving and as a young adult he wrote to my grandparents. My father still has those letters. If someone in Carson Martin’s family would like to talk with my father about those letters please get in touch.
Ooops, Bill can be reached at ww.anderson@ngc.com
Ok just adding another ID to the list.
#42 is Ralph Junior Youngman easily identified by his sister Mrs. Betty Krueger.
I remember a post by Pancoast’s brother to the guestbook where he thought #24 & #25 were Jack Pancoast and his wife Julia Christine Pancoast but he wasn’t definite on that at the time but I thought I’d go ahead and at that here under the pic’s comments section.
#24 and 25 are Louis Doell, radioman, and my mother Evelyn Doell. They were married just before this picture was taken. He left on duty and my mother joined the Coast Guard. They only saw each other a couple of weeks before he left, and of course perished along with the other 69 crewmen.
Louis Doell and Evelyn Doell both resided in Cinti, Ohio
Ms Springer, Thanks for the ID. I take it you are from Evelyn Doell’s second marriage? Vickie found Russell Dieselberg who would be your uncle if I remember correctly but was still looking for a possible child of Louis and Evelyn.- did you have such a sibling? To take this conversation private, feel free to email me at RRRSTAR @ gmail . com (take out the spaces)
sorry for the mistake -Mr. Dieselberg is Louis Doell Jr’s uncle not yours.- figured it out-Sorry about that.
Number A looks a lot like my uncle David Swartwood. I’m not sure, but I have been drawn to that picture for over a year now. Hope this helps - Pat Shooltz
Hope some one comes up with a PIC for my uncle, LEE DALE COOKSEY. If you
do, please e-mail me at. CBURTON751@ROADRUNNER.COM

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HRLP
#34 is my father,Chief Machinist Mate Leo Bedard (a petty officer 1st class at time of picture)#20 is George Bernard
Number 26 is Samuel A. Templeton Gunners Mate First Class. I am 99% sure.I can not tell by his rank if it is gunners mate, It looks like Petty Officer First Class E-6. Sammy is truly my Uncle Sam.
Tom Templeton
I had posted my comments some time back, and still would be
very appreciative if anyone locates my uncle, LEE DALE COOKSEY
in that photo. Since there were 70 people on board the submarine, and only about
60 people in the picture, it is very likely that he did not appeaer for the photo shoot..
