WWII sub find brings closure on lost brother
Carol Day remembers the moment so clearly. As she sat in a summer class at Santa Monica City College in 1942, a messenger pulled her out of class and told her she needed to go home.
“When I got to the house, my mother was sitting there crying,” said Day, a longtime Modesto resident who taught more than three decades in the Sylvan Union School District.

“She told me that the Grunion had been lost.”
