Status Report August 18th #2

Posted on Saturday 18 August 2007

Kale:

Greetings from the Aquila. We are currently south of the Shumigan Isands (Alaska Penninsula). For the next 8 hours we will be crossing Unimak Pass (staying on the south side) which is the second pass in the Aleutian Island chain, False Pass being the first. The waters from the North Pacific exchange with the waters of the Bering Sea through all of the passes out here. At times creating huge seas and lots of current.

0800 18 Aug 07. Position 54 05 N - 162 27 W. SOA 9.8 DTW 523 nm (to Adak). Wx SW 25 seas mixed, 6-8′SW, lots of influence from Unimak Pass. Mostly on the port bow.

The forecast for our path is for Gale Warnings out of the west. This should subside to Small Craft by Sunday morning.

More later,
