Yutaka

Congratulation!

I had thought Mr. John would be back to Adak on Aug. 30, and the search would continue for more several days. So sorry I had asked too much things.
Thank you for spending invaluable hours on Japanese ship search.

Now I am hoping everybody of the expedition team will return home safely. Especially Mr. John because the ship days must be tough one. I admire his guts. (Once I had been working at shipyard and I was alike an mouse on the Noah’s Ark. :-)

Tonight I had a phone call from TOSHI at Adak. And heard the hardness of the expedition. Also he said he did small mourning ceremony in Japanese style on Kiska Is. , and prayed including my wish. I am quite satisfied.
I have nothing regret about Japanese ships. They must be old SAMURAIs and hesitate to appear because they were ordered by the Prime Minister HIDEKI TOJO never to be arrested by the enemy even they were dead nor alive. The sonar(bathometric device) is made by FURUNO, Japanese Maker. So they(Device and Arare) might communicate not to meet the foreigner.
I think Grunion is on the monotonous slope, the sonar easily look down. And Arare is on flat seabed with variety of up-down pleat that makes complex shadow. That may be the reason of the difference between two ships.

Sonar methodical search must be so monotonous and fruitless job, I think. I remember once Dr. Ballad declined the search because of its difficulty. More and more I admire Art Wright, his skill at last year expedition.

Now the 2007 summer is over. Wonderful summer for me. Thank You very much.

I’m hoping you and your family’s long life. So long.
