Hotel Reservations

We have contracted with the Crowne Plaza Hotel Cleveland City Centre to be our headquarters hotel for the Grunion Memorial Weekend on October 10-12, 2008. The room rate for the hotel is $107 per night (plus state and local taxes) for up to four people. The double rooms will not accommodate a fifth person )there simply isn’t enough room for a cot or roll-away bed); so a Junior Suite is available for $40 extra per night, if needed. Parking with in-and-out privileges is available for $5 per day. Internet access is free. Rooms at that rate will be available for stays from October 7 thru October 15, 2008.

The cutoff date for reserving rooms at this rate is July 10, 2008. Please reserve early so we can know how many rooms are actually needed. If you wait until after the cutoff date, you may have to pay the full hotel rate. I encourage you to stay at the Crowne Plaza rather than some other hotel. Both the hospitality room and the banquet will be there. In addition we have committed to filling 75 rooms at the lower rate and don’t want to have to pay for empty rooms. The web site for information about the Crowne Plaza is:

The Crowne Plaza is located at 777 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44114. You may call the Crowne at 216-771-7600 or 1-800-321-1090 to make your reservations. They are ready to accept your calls now. Just mention the USS Grunion Memorial, or code “GRU”. There will be a web-site available for registration in one or two weeks.

The procedure for registering for all the weekend activities will be available in a few days.

Please note – If you plan to attend and have not previously notified us, please email with the names of those planning to attend, and the dates that you will be staying at the Crowne Plaza.
