Think you would be interested to know that the “The Search for the USS Grunion” has won a first place award in the “documentary event” category in the Alliance for
Community Media Hometown Video Contest, a national competition. Joe Hunter, the producer, goes to Washington , DC July 10th to receive the award.
The DVD is available at Amazon.com. Search using the keyword “Grunion”.
Congratulations Mr. Hunter! I’m not surprised. I saw the one you did after the sonar search and thought it was absolutely Awesome! I haven’t seen this up to date version yet but plan to.
This is an excellent DVD! bought it as soon as it was produced. Joe Hunter produced an awesome story of the Grunion and the Abele family for history and memories. It brings tears to my eyes everytime I watch it, particularly at the end when the picture of my Uncle Ryder Mathison is shown.Hopefully, there will be additional DVDs, perhaps of the memorial service.
Congratulations on the award!
Here is the link for the story that appeared in today’s Pittsburgh Post Gazette on Jack Edwin Pancoast who was one of six men from Pennsylvania who died on the USS Grunion. After two years, our mission to have stories written and published for each of our 70 men is nearing completion. http://postgazette.com/pg/08206/899181-155.stm
