The date today is Jan 27. 2012. There hasnt been any new blog postings since July 2011.
There had been a flury of interest from 2006 till 2008 then things taperd off.
I believe there is still infomation that can be found in some ones old "Sea Chest" or foot locker. If I Google the Grunion it says there are 6,240 listings, Im still reading. If I Google the Kano Maru there arent as many and I havent read all of them yet.
If we were to create an algorithm ( basic local alignment search tool) and feed in all the known info and expand the parimeters the puzzel would become clearer. Mabe not a definative answer but clearer. KR

My father served on subs in WWII and went on to spend 30 years total in the Navy (Retired a Captain). He lost a number of classmates during the war. Though he is still with us, he is not sharp enough to ask about your dad. I grew up around bases (born in 57) - he was 37. I am know a member of the Navy League. All this to say... thank you for your determination and your family's sacrifice. My hopes and prayers are with you at this time of closure. These men serving on those small boats were dedicated and a bit crazy. Those of you that have climbed aboard an old WWII boat know what I mean. I salute all of you submariners and many thanks to these two for their journey... Rick.

I served on an old WWII Destroyer that was on station in the North Pacific during WWII. I would think that information of a missing sub would be related to other ships in the area especially a destroyer, whereas ships of that type, among other duties, would be relegated to search & rescue. There wasn't a time line as to when the sub was lost so I don't know if it fits into the time of 1944 to the duration of the war. That is when my ship the USS JOHN HOOD, DD655 was on station. Our next ship reunion will be in April, I will ask the few remaining WWII veterans if they recall or were aware of this incident.
